A few days after the Austrian Grand Prix, Lando Norris changed his mind somewhat about the incident with Max Verstappen – presumably influenced by a conversation that took place between them.
Lando Norris: “The weekend in Austria taught me a lot, even though a lot of things were expected and I knew that in advance. I believe that you have to fight different opponents in different ways, especially when you are looking for high results.
At the same time, Max fights in his own way on the track, not like many others, and this also explains why he became world champion. In any case, we analyzed what happened last weekend and I am ready to continue fighting, but this time I will try to deal with it better.
Max is a very tough opponent who always fights to the limit, but I like it. The duel with him was a pleasure, although of course I still regret how it all ended.
I had a chat with him, but honestly Max has nothing to apologize for. I suppose I myself partly didn’t really believe what I said after the race, when I was upset and the adrenaline was still through the roof.
In my opinion, the incident in Austria was quite ridiculous, considering what it led to, especially since there was very little contact between our cars. But the consequences were just terrible, especially for me, and this should of course be avoided.
I don’t expect any excuses from Max, after all we fought well on track, even though we were sometimes too close to the limit, but we talked about everything and are ready to continue racing.
“If we talk about the upcoming British Grand Prix, McLaren is in good shape and we are almost overtaking Red Bull, but Mercedes is getting closer to us – in race conditions their car is capable of excellent pace. That’s why I foresee many of us being able to achieve high results this weekend.”
