Gunther Steiner: Berman is ready for Formula 1

The day before, Haas F1 confirmed the contract with Oliver Berman for the 2025 season. Former team boss Steiner believes Oliver Berman is ready to make his Formula 1 debut, but a difficult task awaits him.

Gunther Steiner: “I think Berman will be good. The last two excellent newcomers, Norris and Piastri, are now competing successfully for McLaren. The team was right to sign a contract with them. You never know how good a driver is until you see him in action, but I think Oliver is ready for Formula 1.

He did well in his debut race with Ferrari when he was brought in as a substitute, but it is one thing to drive a very good car and finish seventh, and quite another to drive a mid-range car and try to score points. This is a more difficult task.

I don’t want to belittle him in any way, the most important thing for me was that he didn’t make any mistakes on his debut, he was very calm and attentive. Last year the same thing happened in training. He never tried to exaggerate it.

Before I went to practice, I said the worst thing you can do in this situation is to go out on the track and crash your car, because that’s what everyone will remember, not you. And it worked out great.”
