Lando Norris: At Silverstone you have to be prepared for anything

The McLaren drivers followed the protocol on Friday, but both believe the changeable English weather could significantly affect the rest of the weekend.

Lando Norris (1st): “The weekend starts well, although I won’t say I worked perfectly. In the morning I couldn’t achieve a comfortable driving experience, but during both sessions we made certain adjustments to the settings, after which the car made a much more pleasant impression.

At Silverstone, with its high-speed nature, this is important, because a lot depends on how the front wheels grip the track. Overall, it is not so easy, but I am satisfied and I think we have made significant progress.

I think the competition will be very intense because it looks like even Mercedes is probably as fast as us, they just haven’t put the engines at maximum power.

Overall I think we are at a good level, although we probably still need to work on our speed and try to increase it a bit. I like that there are already a lot of fans in the stands, but I wish the weather was better. However, most of the day was without rain and it only started in the late afternoon.

“I think we are ready for any development of events, whatever the conditions. I have always enjoyed racing in all weather conditions, although on a weekend at home you want it to be dry. But this is England, this is Silverstone, so you have to be prepared for anything.”

Oscar Piastri (2nd): “We started the weekend full of confidence, that’s for sure. It was interesting to see the work of the other teams. If we can stay ahead for the rest of the weekend and maintain that lead, that will be good, but I’m not sure we can do that.

In my opinion, the practice went well overall, as did the day as a whole, and the car made a good impression. I just need to work on my piloting to avoid mistakes, but overall it was a pretty normal Friday.

I think the weather will have a big influence on the course of the weekend, and it is possible that good pace on dry asphalt will not be so important in the remaining days of the weekend. We will see, but I think all the teams will have to solve difficult problems to deal with the weather conditions, so we can expect an interesting weekend.”
