Fred Wasser: We’ve gone back to the previous version of the car

Ferrari decided to revert to the previous version of the car, which seems more predictable for the team, but failed to make the top six in qualifying…

Frederik VasseurTeam Principal: “We didn’t qualify well enough, we couldn’t get everything in line. Today we decided to go back to the previous version of the car, because the new one was swaying and in the fast corners of Silverstone the effect of installing new parts was not enough.

In the second part of qualifying there were nine cars within a tenth, and the condition of the track improved rapidly. Carlos qualified for the final, but Charles made a mistake in turn 13 and was eliminated from the race.

In the final, Carlos managed to put in a decent lap on the first attempt, but on the second he got stuck in traffic, had to fight for track position with Oscar Piastri and Fernando Alonso and could not prepare the tyres for a fast lap.

Considering our starting positions, rainy conditions during the race can offer the best opportunities. You have to develop the optimal strategy and run the race perfectly to earn a decent number of points.”

Carlos Sainz (7th): “I gave everything, but we knew the track at Silverstone would be difficult for us, and the weather made everything even more difficult.

Now I think I could have gone earlier for the second attempt, but it turned out that the fight for position with other cars did not allow me to prepare the tyres for a fast lap.

“We need to keep working on closing the gap, but we’re not doing well here yet. But the points are up for grabs tomorrow, so I’m looking forward to the race, which could be even more interesting because of the weather.”

Charles Leclerc (11th): “Not an easy qualification. It is important to find out the reason, because problems have been following us for several weekends.

We did the right thing on Friday by reconfiguring our machines and gathering important information for the long-term work, but by focusing on testing we were unable to find the optimal settings for this weekend, which became clear in qualifying today.

We are working to understand what direction we need to take now to return to previous results as quickly as possible.”
