At Silverstone, the Williams drivers drove their most successful qualifying of the season – Alex Albon repeated his best starting position and set the ninth fastest time. Logan Sargent’s twelfth place is the best result by an American driver in 2024. The team hopes to consolidate their success in the race and earn points.
Alex Albon (9th): “To be honest, we had a great car today and I was able to qualify for the final, despite the weather keeping everyone on edge. I think the car suffered some minor damage in the second session, which affected the pace a bit in the final, but it wasn’t decisive. I don’t know if there was a chance for eighth place, but I’m still very happy. I enjoyed this qualifying after some difficult stages.
All weekend we were lacking speed and hampered by balance issues, but today the low track temperature worked in our favour as the tyres lasted longer.
Given that the weather on Sunday can be changeable, we will have an interesting race with different strategy options. Hopefully we can fight for some points.”
Logan Sargent (12th): “The weekend is going well, considering I missed the first practice and only did a few laps on an empty tank before qualifying.
It was not easy to fly consistently in changing conditions. We expected a rainy qualifying, but already in the first session the track was almost dry. The car was fast and I am proud that I was able to do good laps when it really mattered.
I was quite happy with my lap in the second part, although I lost a tenth or two tenths due to understeer in the Becketts.
The weather for Sunday promises to be changeable, but the most important thing is that we are in the fight. I will do my homework tonight and be ready for all conditions on the track.”
