On Sky Sports F1, McLaren team principal Andrea Stella summarised the results of qualifying, which saw his drivers finish third and fifth…
Andrea Stella: “The weather made qualifying difficult; at times it looked like it would rain again.
Overall we performed well. Unfortunately in the final we couldn’t improve the second attempt compared to the first. I’m sure we could have found a few tenths and fought for pole, but Lando had some problems in turn 3 and when we realised he wasn’t going to improve he aborted the lap.
With Oscar we had little time, and when we tried, he was too close to the car in front. But the good news is that we are competitive. We start third and fifth, and then everything depends on us.
Mercedes’ performance is worth recognizing. They have two cars on the front row – this shows that the cars are fast, and we never had any doubts about the speed of their drivers. So they are great.
We could have done a little better, but we will play our cards tomorrow.”
