Lewis Hamilton won his final race at Silverstone with Mercedes, a symbolic 104th victory of his career. The seven-time world champion was in tears as he returned to the pit lane after his triumphant finish and was still overcome with emotion as he commented on his performance today.
Lewis Hamilton: “I can’t hold back the tears… I know that in 2021, since my last win, I woke up every morning thinking that we have to keep fighting, training, trying to get into the race, the right mental state and working as hard as we can together with this great team.
This is my last British Grand Prix with Mercedes and I really wanted to win this race for them, because I love and appreciate them all so much. Today’s win is the result of the enormous work they have done over the years. I will be forever grateful to everyone at Mercedes and all our partners.
And of course to all our amazing fans: every lap I saw how they reacted. It’s hard to imagine what could be a more satisfying experience than winning at Silverstone!”
