Esteban Ocon (16th): “Today’s result concludes a difficult stage for us. We made bad decisions all weekend and didn’t give ourselves any chances. We knew the weather would be changeable, but we didn’t optimise our tyre strategy and fell back.
This weekend must be forgotten as soon as possible and everything must be done correctly in Budapest. I have wonderful memories of the race and the circuit in Hungary.”
Pierre Gasly (departure): “When I left the pits I immediately realised that there was something wrong with the car. We suspected a gearbox problem and as a result I turned into the pits after the formation lap and retired from the race.
The penalty for changing the power unit made the weekend difficult anyway. It’s a shame I couldn’t even start to at least try to fight for positions. With unstable weather we might have had a chance.
We need to understand what exactly happened so that we don’t have such openings anymore. We have a lot to work on, we will use the time before Hungary to return to the fight in better shape.”
