Sauber’s best result at the British Grand Prix was 15th place for Valtteri Bottas. The Finnish driver said the car still lacks speed, but he hopes the team will bring updates to the next stage in Hungary that will improve the car.
Guanyu Zhou finished last and complained that the rain came too late.
Valtteri Bottas (15th): “Definitely not the easiest day, as there were wet sections of the track that we had to drive on slicks. I believe we made the right strategic decisions today and didn’t make any unnecessary pit stops. However, in all weather conditions we didn’t have the pace to compete with the front runners.
It is necessary to keep working and bringing new products. I hope that this will happen sooner rather than later. Maybe we will get updates on the stage in Budapest. At least that is what I hope.”
Guanyu Zhou (18th): “I started on soft tyres and the rain started too late. My tyres went bad after ten laps and then we tried to make up for it by changing to intermediate tyres, but the plan didn’t work. We tried anyway, but after that the race was basically over for me.
The result was not what we expected, but overall the pace was as expected. I felt quite comfortable driving in the changeable conditions, but we need to keep working to get back in the race for points. There is still a lot of work to do, but I hope we can do it soon enough.”
