Alex Albon: I could have scored more points

The race at Silverstone was the second of the season in which the Williams team earned points. Alex Albon finished ninth, in the same position as he started.

His teammate Logan Sargent finished eleventh, his best result of the season.

Alex Albon (9th): “On the first lap I had contact with another car in turns three and four, which made me lose part of the front wing, which made me nervous at the beginning of the race. But then everything fell into place, so I’m happy.

I knew that if it rained, it would be a second chance for me, so I waited patiently for opportunities to arise. In fact, we made the right decisions: we made the right pit stops and put the right tyres on.

I lost some time during the pit stops though, I think I could have earned more points without the damage to the car, but I’m still happy.

This weekend the team had to deliver a result and this result made our home Grand Prix special.”

Logan Sargent (11th): “Overall a good day. From the second practice I had problems with a full tank, but we were able to improve the car, which is reflected in the result.

I had a good pace, especially on slicks. However, on the drying track there were some minor issues with the intermediate tyres degrading very quickly, but my team and I were able to cope well with difficult conditions.

I was unlucky at the pitstop when I changed to intermediate tyres. I had to wait behind Alex, whose pitstop was slow, and we both lost time.

Now of course I understand that some decisions could have been made a lap or two earlier. In the end this could have determined whether I deserved one point or not. Overall I am happy with how I rode this weekend.”
