Jenson Button: Red Bull could replace Perez

Sergio Perez has scored just 11 points in the last five races and although Red Bull Racing remains in the lead of the Constructors’ Championship, rivals, notably McLaren and Mercedes, are rapidly closing the gap.

2009 World Champion Jenson Button believes that if Sergio Perez does not improve in the next stage in Hungary, the team will decide to replace him, as he can no longer afford to lose points.

Jenson Button: “Sergio is in huge trouble. The weekend at Silverstone was terrible, although in some ways he was unlucky. It won’t happen every weekend, but McLaren have already taken a lot of points back from Red Bull.

The team needs Perez to at least score points, even if he doesn’t finish right behind Max. They can’t afford to continue like this. I believe that if Sergio doesn’t score points in the next race, they will quickly drop him and give the car to someone else.

“I know Perez is having very bad feelings at the moment. It would be terrible if the team had to replace him, but the Constructors’ Championship is important to them.”
