Ferrari sacrificed the preparations for the Silverstone race and concentrated on comparing the two versions of the car during Friday practice. This influenced the results, but team principal Frederic Vasseur believes the information gathered is more important.
Frederic Vasseur: “Last year we also did tests in the summer. During the training sessions at Silverstone, Budapest, Spa and Zandvoort we did a complete scan of the situation, figured everything out and made serious improvements.
The tricky thing is that if there is a problem, you can’t do any testing to solve it or even understand it. Sometimes it can be quite difficult for a team to compromise or sacrifice a Friday session at Silverstone. We were unlucky with the weather, but we made a decision before the start of the weekend and I think it was the right one.
Will we be able to catch Red Bull this season? I don’t think about it. I don’t even know how many points we are behind Red Bull and how many points we are ahead of the other team. I don’t know who is in third place, but I suspect it’s McLaren.
“It’s not about today’s results. Our goal is to regain speed and efficiency, to return to the situation in Monaco or Imola, to fight for pole positions and victories. There are still 12 or 13 races until the end of the year. Almost a whole season. We have the time and the possibility to change everything ten more times.”
