Sebastian Vettel: Soft is not the best composition for the race

Lance Stroll started and finished fifteenth in the sprint. His Aston Martin team-mate Sebastian Vettel has lost positions and will start Sunday’s race from thirteenth place.

Sebastian Vettel (13th): “It’s a shame we couldn’t keep the top ten position, but I don’t think getting out of the safety car helped us because after his departure the problems with the granulation of the Soft tires had started.

In the first laps I defended without any problems, leaving a whole “train” of cars behind me in line. Mick Schumacher had an advantage with Medium tires so after he overtook me I started to lose ground pretty quickly. I just didn’t have the speed to stop my opponents.

The sprint will allow you to learn a lot about the car and get an idea of what to expect from Sunday’s race. What we saw today is that Soft is not the best lineup for tomorrow’s race.”

Lance Walk (15th): “Today we did everything we could, but the car doesn’t have enough speed to regain positions. I enjoyed fighting Lewis Hamilton – he kept me on my toes! I like the sprint format because it helps sharpen the fight.

Now we need to study the collected data to understand what can be done tomorrow. There is a chance of changeable weather – I hope it will rain and the race will be in our favour.

Mike Krak, Team Principal: “Given the speed of the car, we knew it would be difficult for Sebastian to keep his starting position in the sprint. Given the advantage DRS gives on this track, he was practically defenseless against attack. Sebastian has lost several places and will start in thirteenth place tomorrow.

Lance had no luck in yesterday’s qualifying, so he got stuck behind other cars in the sprint and was unable to recover. As a result, he finished in the same position in which he started – fifteenth.

The first sprint of the season turned out to be eventful – we saw the battle all over the pack and tomorrow we have something to fight for.”
