In 2026, the Red Bull Racing team’s cars will be powered by Red Bull Powertrains engines, developed jointly with Ford. The junior team RB will also switch to the same power plants, but the company may have another customer.
Negotiations for a partnership with Red Bull Powertrains are being led by McLaren boss Zak Brown. Although the Woking-based team last year extended its contract to supply Mercedes engines until 2030, this has not stopped Brown from considering other options.
During the Silverstone round, Zac Brown did not deny his interest in Red Bull Ford engines: “I have a great relationship with Ford CEO Jim Farley. We met him last year and afterwards he gave me a tour of the power plant. But that was before we extended the contract with Mercedes.”
According to Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport, Zak Brown has been in regular contact with Red Bull management recently about the possible supply of engines, but no details have been released yet.
“I don’t think Red Bull will be happy if I show up at their base now,” Zack joked, hinting that McLaren and Red Bull Racing are currently battling it out for race wins.
