Max Verstappen has won seven of the 12 races this season, but Red Bull Racing’s dominance in 2023 is no longer evident. The championship-winning team’s principal Christian Horner said victories in intense competition are more satisfying.
Christian Horner: “Last year we won by 30-40 seconds, so the races weren’t that stressful. But this is strange, because when you win by such a margin you start to pay more attention to reliability and other parameters.
Now we have no opportunity to think about reliability, because we have to get everything out of the car that it is capable of. And of course, victories in such a tense battle are more pleasant.
Only after a while you realize that the 2023 season was special, that’s why I call 2023 the year of the unicorn. As you know, unicorns don’t exist. What we achieved last year may never be achieved again.
Now we see a more familiar Formula 1, but we have about 80 points lead in the drivers’ championship and we have strengthened our lead in the constructors’ championship.”
