Magnussen: I was surprised that everyone on Soft . began

Kevin Magnussen started fourth in the sprint at Imola, but was unable to stop his faster opponents. However, the Haas rider finished eighth and earned one point. His teammate Mick Schumacher has regained positions and will start tenth in the race on Sunday, the best position of his career.

Kevin Magnussen (8th): “It was a surprise to us that almost everyone started on Soft – this is not the picture we wanted to see. We felt that the composition of Soft breaks down quickly, so we chose Medium. In the first laps it seemed like everyone was catching up to me, but then the pace stabilized – at least compared to Daniel Ricciardo and Fernando Alonso.

It’s great that we managed to earn a point for eighth today. Most of the time we are happy with eighth place in qualifying, so we evaluate the results positively. We will both start in the top ten tomorrow and hopefully we can earn more points.”

Mick Schumacher (10th): “I think we chose the right tires for the sprint. I had some interesting fights, but it’s a shame I didn’t manage to earn points. I hope I can do it in the race.

I liked fighting rivals, especially Sebastian. Let’s see what the situation will be in the race with full tanks, but today we learned a lot of positive things.

Gunther Steiner, Team Principal: “We expected a slightly better result, but Kevin was not happy with the balance of the car. On the other hand, Mick did a great job and regained two positions on the grid.

The team earned one point, which is positive, and Mick regained the positions. It is necessary to improve the balance and earn some points tomorrow.”
