Hamilton was impressed with the way Brad Pitt drove

Last weekend during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, filming for the upcoming Formula 1 film continued and on Sunday the first commercial was presented for the upcoming film, which may well have the shortest of all possible names: F1.

But the filming process began a year ago, with some scenes being filmed there, at Silverstone, and at the same time the pits for the fictional APXGP team were built there for the first time.

Brad Pitt, a top Hollywood star who had to master the skills of driving a race car, was invited to play one of the lead roles, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Joseph Kosinski told what it was like in an interview with Deadline.

“We trained Brad for almost three months in different cars, his and Damson Idris’s,” Bruckheimer recalls. – We started with Formula 3 and then moved on to Formula 2 technology. Lewis said then that our actors did a great job; he said they are real athletes, and everything came very naturally to them. He was really impressed with the way they flew.”

“We worked with Mercedes to create cars for our film based on Formula 2 technology, and it was actually Toto Wolff’s idea,” Kosinski continued. “Everyone in this team complained that the cars in racing films were not fast enough, because usually special ‘film cars’ are built for that. They look good, but they are not real racing equipment.

But during the very first meeting at Mercedes, Toto Wolff told us: “You have to build them based on Formula 2 cars, but make them look like Formula 1 cars.” Generally, the chassis and engine come from F2.

We worked closely with Mercedes, their designers and aerodynamicists, to develop a body reminiscent of the current generation of Formula 1 cars. All of this was built specifically for our film. In addition, the vehicles are equipped with 15 cameras, as well as recorders, batteries and transmitters.

This is what is unique about our film, that a lot of the scenes were filmed at the real Grand Prix. Brad and Damson were driving these cars themselves, which is impressive in itself, and they were doing it in front of crowded grandstands and at high speeds. It was our job to figure out how to film all of this. Overall, it was unlike anything I’ve ever done before.”

The film is scheduled for worldwide release this summer.
