One of the main events of this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed was the performances of Red Bull Racing drivers from different generations in front of thousands of motorsport fans.
After the demonstration, all Red Bull cars from various production years drove to Goodwood House, a mansion built in the late 17th century, where the drivers, as well as Adrian Newey and Christian Horner, went to the balcony, where they answered questions from Karun Chandhok.
In particular, the ex-Formula 1 driver, and now a pundit and commentator on Sky Sports, asked everyone to name their favorite cars of the team, which in the twenty years of its existence has won 120 races and the constructors’ title 6 times champion.
And this is how they responded…
Christian Horner: “It’s like picking a favourite child… But I think it will be the RB16B because 2021 was a very important year for our team and then Max won the championship in the last race of the season.”
Adriaan Newey: “For me, it’s obviously a very difficult choice. But in many ways, it’s an RB5. Even though we didn’t win the championship that season, that car laid the foundation for future victories as we dominated Formula 1 for the next four seasons.”
Christian Klin: “I like cars that are a bit smaller and have a really loud V10 sound, so I’m going for the RB1!”
The Austrian racer drove it for Red Bull Racing in 2005 and will be back behind the wheel of his car at Goodwood this weekend.
David Coulthard: “I chose the RB19 because it is the most successful car in the history of the team. I was lucky because I got to drive this car. It was at Silverstone shortly before the Singapore Grand Prix – by the way the only race they didn’t win last season.”
Mark Webber: “I chose the RB6 – I won a few races with it in 2010 and it was great!”
Daniel Ricciardo: “I think it has to be the RB10, the 2014 car in which I achieved my first Formula 1 victory.”
Sergio Perez: “My choice is RB19. Last year our team performed with great confidence, we achieved a record number of victories and in the history of the team this is a very important car.”
MaxVerstappen: “I have three favourite cars. I can’t choose just one. First of all, it’s the RB12. I thought it was fun to drive and it was also the car that gave me my first win. Admittedly, it lacked a little bit of speed on the straights, but I don’t think it was the car at the time.
Then I will mention the RB16B, with which I won the championship for the first time, and it was accompanied by very strong emotions. It was also very nice to drive. And I think I should also go for the RB19, because with which I won the most races.
But of course every car has very important memories attached to it.”
