The last two races in Spielberg and Silverstone were won by Mercedes drivers – George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko said that engineers are preparing new products for the Hungarian Grand Prix, which, the championship team hopes, will help close the gap.
Helmut Marko: “The point now is that to win we have to do everything perfectly and not make any mistakes. At Silverstone we were too slow on the Medium tyres, but fortunately we will get updates in Hungary that we hope will allow us to take a step forward.
One thing is clear: the new products have to work, because at the moment our pace is not only slower than that of McLaren, but also that of Mercedes, judging from the British Grand Prix.
I no longer fully believe that if a car is fast in Barcelona it will be fast on any type of circuit, or that temperature plays a significant role. All these claims are now being questioned because of the tyres.
Of course it is crucial to get the tyres in the optimum range, but the Red Bull car is not the fastest at the moment. We need to solve this with updates.”
