Haas F1 is trying to prepare Oliver Burman as best as possible for his Formula 1 debut, scheduled for 2025, and the 19-year-old Briton practiced in the VF-24 for the third time this season at Silverstone on Friday.
Oliver first drove a Haas car at the end of last season during practice in Mexico City and Abu Dhabi, and this year he will replace one of the team’s key drivers for a further six laps during the opening free practice session. First it was Imola, then Barcelona, before he returned to the wheel at his home track.
Berman is already very popular with the British fans, especially after his very successful debut in Saudi Arabia, where he literally replaced Carlos Sainz at Ferrari at the last minute and earned points for 7th place on a fast and difficult circuit in Jeddah.
For now, Oliver is competing in Formula 2, but next season will start a new page in his career, because his contract with Haas is not valid for several years. Luca Metelli, the chief aerodynamicist of the American team, speaks very positively about the work and the professional qualities of Berman.
Luca Metelli: “To start with, he had to drive a modernised version of the car with the latest innovations at Silverstone, so he had to give us information about the performance of the VF-24 compared to his impressions from the last time he drove it.
Since Oliver also drove a Ferrari, he explained how our car differs from the SF-24 in terms of handling and aerodynamics. And we are very impressed with the way he works with engineers and gives them high-quality feedback.
At the same time, he can immediately show excellent speed and loses only a few tenths to the riders of the main team. This is also very impressive because he needs almost no time to adapt. That is why Ayo Komatsu, our team leader, decided to give him a chance.”
