Valtteri Bottas was in twelfth position during the race in Hungary but retired on lap 65 due to fuel system problems. Alfa Romeo’s lead race engineer, Hevi Pujolar, said the team saw no signs of damage to the telemetry before retirement.
Heavy Pujolar: “Valtteri stopped due to a technical failure in the fuel system – we will find out the exact reason that led to the failure, but this is not good enough.
There were no signs of bad luck before the exit – everything worked perfectly until that lap. First the engineers noticed signs of a telemetry malfunction and almost simultaneously Valtteri radioed that he was losing power – he had to stop immediately and the race was over.
At the Hungaroring a lot of people had problems with the Hard tires, but according to Pujolar the Alfa Romeo compound worked quite well: “We had no serious problems with these tires, it’s a pretty normal compound.
The blue flags gave us a lot more trouble – other riders on new tires quickly overtook us, but there were no problems with Hard himself. Our problem was that we lost a lot of ground on the first lap and then got stuck in traffic. As a result, it was not possible to grow to higher positions, as we had planned.”
