Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll has a special status within the team. His father Lawrence is the owner and ideological inspiration of the project.
It always looked like Lance would drive for Aston Martin for as long as he wanted – and a new contract was recently signed – but team manager Mike Krak unexpectedly revealed he was considering other options.
Mike Krak: “The team should not feel pressure from the driver market. You have to formulate for yourself what you want and strive for it. We have outlined our objectives honestly and strive to achieve them.
You always look at who is available on the market. I think every team has a plan B and a plan C in addition to the main plan in case plan A fails.
I’ve been talking for a few weeks about how important stability and continuity are for us, especially with the upcoming change in regulations. We’re very happy to have a strong and mature line-up. We know who our rivals are, and it’s certainly not another green car.
Fernando and Lance work well together and are going in the same direction, we have no problem with that. And we are very happy that we have been able to guarantee the stability in the long term.”
