Max Verstappen has earned 8 points for the sprint victory in Imola, recovering from a bad start and will start from pole tomorrow. At the same time, he understands that in Sunday’s Grand Prix, everything can turn out differently.
Max Verstappen: “The start was not very good – I don’t know what happened then, but the wheels slipped too much. After that, he had to keep calm and at first it looked like Charles could keep up with a faster pace.
But some time passed and I managed to pressure Charles. I think we still worked a little bit better with tires today, and at the end of the race it helped us. The tires on Leclerc’s Ferrari started to give out and I was able to get close enough to use the DRS – we had a great duel before the second corner.
But I had to attack with full force! I understand that the situation may change again tomorrow, but today we passed on these tyres. So I’m glad we finished a great sprint race and the battle was correct.
Let’s see how it goes tomorrow!”
