Hungarian Grand Prix: Stage Preview

At the start of the season, Max Verstappen’s dominance was undeniable. He won four of the first six races and three of the next six. In terms of results, almost nothing has changed, but there is a real battle for victory and the former dominance is no longer there.

How interesting the recent series of three races in a row affected the balance of power: Mercedes and McLaren fought on equal terms with Red Bull, and Mercedes, which had not won for a long time, won two races in a row.

Ferrari was forced to abandon the new products as the modified cars suffered from fluctuations on the track, but they plan to catch up quickly as all the necessary tests have already been carried out.

Moreover, if the rivals each had two strong drivers, then only Verstappen would fight for Red Bull Racing.

Perez has completely lost his form. There was talk that he could be replaced during the summer break, but that is not happening. Previously, Helmut Marko could easily transfer one of the young drivers to the reserve, but Perez is not young, and Marko’s influence is no longer the same, and Sergio’s sponsors are closely integrated into Red Bull. Rumors are more like an extra means of pressure on Perez, who can hardly resist this pressure anyway

During a series of three consecutive stages, the riders and the strongest teams earned:

Racer Team Spain Austria Great Britain Total
Verstappen Red Bull 25 18 18 61
Hamilton Mercedes 15 15 25 55
Piastres McLaren 6 25 12 43
Russel Mercedes 12 thirty 0 42
Norris McLaren 19 6 15 40
Sainz Ferrari 8 19 eleven 38
Leclerc Ferrari 10 2 0 12
Perez Red Bull 4 7 0 eleven

Despite the apparent glitch, there is no glitch at Red Bull. Verstappen has earned the most points and is steadily breaking away from his rivals, and Hamilton’s successes are of no consequence to him: Lewis is eighth in the individual standings and Max has a 21-point lead over his nearest rival, Norris, after three races.

In the Constructors’ Championship, things aren’t going so well for Red Bull, precisely because of Perez, but nothing is threatening their lead. Their biggest rivals Ferrari have fallen back, losing 22 points in three races, and Mercedes are so far behind that you can’t even think about them.

Previously, in similar situations, they often said that one or two slips could change everything, but modern cars are so reliable that slips almost do not occur.

Team Spain Austria Great Britain Total
Mercedes 27 45 25 97
McLaren 25 31 27 83
Red Bull 29 25 18 72
Ferrari 18 21 eleven 50

The second half of the season promises to be interesting. And if everything is more or less clear with the battle for the title and the constructors’ championship, then local duels in the battle for victory will certainly give us many pleasant moments.

The Hungarian podium breaks stereotypes for the second year in a row. Usually everyone came to the Hungaroring with a suitcase mood and hotel reservations for the summer holidays, with a month-long farewell to Formula 1 for the Spa round. This year, there is only a week between Hungary and Spa, and only then do the holidays begin.

Traditionally, the Hungarian race is one of the most boring, but the stands are always full and this weekend too it will be sold out. The atmosphere at the Hungaroring is compared to the best stages of the eighties, and not because the local authorities, like then, announce an amnesty for girls with low social responsibility on weekends. Those times are irrevocably over, although the girls probably still exist.

This is a normal, ordinary European podium. There are no more buses with Russian and Finnish fans standing with buses of cheap and tasty Hungarian wine, where the euphoria at the start of the race reached a peak. No one can pass ten people on two tickets anymore, because the control is now automatic. And the battle for the longest pole with flag, in which ours always won, is also over.

Those who have the opportunity can choose, and the sun-drenched Hungaroring doesn’t seem like the best choice. But there is something special about this stage.

The only hope for a strong fight at the Hungarian circuit always comes down to the weather, but this weekend will be held under a blazing sun, with temperatures above 30 degrees and a chance of rain of no more than 10%. It will not be easy for the drivers and the cars.
