Lewis Hamilton has an impressive track record at the Hungaroring, having started the race from pole position nine times and taking eight victories. After winning the British Grand Prix, the seven-time world champion is naturally determined to build on his recent success.
There is a chance of that, because Mercedes earned more points than any other team over the previous four stages.
Lewis Hamilton: “It’s difficult to say what we will be capable of this weekend, but last year I won qualifying at the Hungarian circuit and now we have a more efficient car, that’s for sure.
In terms of raw speed, the Red Bull and McLaren cars are probably a little bit faster than the W15, but our progress is very clear. And I am very keen to see what results we are going to get.
The last few weeks the team seemed to have a new energy boost, but at the same time I don’t want to get too far away from reality. And there’s a certain duality with that, because now we have to go all-in – and whatever happens! We feel that there are chances to win, and of course we don’t want to miss them.
I dare to suggest that if we are competitive here at the Hungaroring and then in Belgium, we should maintain this form until the end of the season. Because we are fighting for victories again, it suggests that we have enough determination and will, and that we are prepared to give everything, because this is the only way to turn the tide of events.
After the win at Silverstone we didn’t make any noise to celebrate. After the race I went back to London, watched the highlights of the Grand Prix and then went with friends to an Indian restaurant with excellent cuisine.
But the next morning I went for a run in Hyde Park, and of everyone there, I had the biggest smile on my face.
