Every race weekend, journalists ask Carlos Sainz if he has made a decision on which team he will continue his career with. In Hungary, the Spanish Ferrari driver started answering this question with a joke about the European Football Championship.
Carlos Sainz: “Of course I am getting closer to a decision every day and week, but the last few days I have been very busy watching the European Championship and I have not decided anything yet!
I am aware that I am making other riders wait, but at the same time I don’t think that anything will change if I decide earlier. All teams have their own priorities and will make their decisions depending on how events unfold.
This sport and this world has taught me to be a little bit selfish, to think about myself and to make decisions that benefit me and to make them at a time that suits me. I have all the options in front of me and I am ready to make a decision, but I will not rush things if I don’t have to.
The teams have been very patient and I thank them for that, but that doesn’t mean I’m the only one here whose decision everything depends on. I too have had to be patient with the things I have to be patient with. But again, I thank everyone who has to wait for me.
What I don’t quite understand is why things got moving so early this year on the pilot market? Why is everyone in a hurry? I remember similar events happening during the summer holidays or in September, or at most in July.”
