Williams expects the Hungaroring not to suit the FW46

The British Grand Prix was only the second race of the first half of the season in which Alex Albon managed to score points. He finished 9th there, just like in Monaco, but even his Williams teammate Logan Sargent finished 11th, his best result of the year. However, Alex is prepared to admit that it will most likely not be possible to repeat this in Hungary…

Alex Albon: “It was nice to finish in the top ten again, because it was really one of those races where everything went more successfully and, moreover, the British circuit suited our car well. Now the team is doing everything right, the development direction is right and, although we are not introducing many new products, we are trying to find the optimal settings for the FW46, especially for circuits that suit us well.

The season is not easy and of course we expected better results, but we have to admit that the other mid-range teams are doing great at the moment, especially Haas. They have been a surprise this year and it seems that they are continuing to improve.

The gap to the leaders is gradually closing, but we are still underperforming some of the other teams in this group. However, the competition remains fierce and those who introduce new products have the opportunity to fight for points. But again, there will be no improvements to our car this weekend, so our job is to make the most of the opportunities we actually have.

Our expectations are low, I don’t think the Hungarian circuit suits the FW46, and to some extent what happened in Barcelona can be repeated, because here too a lot depends on the downforce. However, we need to have a good test: based on the information we received in the Spanish phase, we have prepared some ideas for tuning the chassis. In general, we have some ideas on how to solve at least some of the problems. We will look at all of this in the first practice and see what we can do.”
