Nico Hulkenberg finished sixth in the last two races at Spielberg and Silverstone. At the FIA press conference in Hungary, the Haas driver commented on the team’s results in the first half of the season.
Nico Hulkenberg: “The last few races have gone very well and we have achieved positive results. The round in Austria was successful and we brought updates to Silverstone, which allowed us to take a step forward.
Half of the season is behind us and we can say that it is going surprisingly positive. The team has improved significantly compared to last year and that is good. It is fun to fight for points in races. We not only earned points in the last races, but also finished close to the top ten several times. The team’s goal is to continue in the same spirit until the end of the season.
To some extent, the team surprised itself this season with such results. Already during the pre-season tests in Bahrain, we realized that we were in better shape than we had expected. The reorganization of the technical structure of the team has clearly paid off. So far, everything is going well and pleasantly.
I think we will be competitive in Hungary too. Usually we fight in the middle group, our car is fifth and sometimes fourth, so I don’t see any reason why this weekend will be different.”
Nico said of Haas’ decision not to renew Kevin Magnussen’s contract: “I enjoyed working with him for three seasons. He and I worked well together after some disagreements a few years earlier. In fact, our relationship turned around and became friendly.
Kevin and I worked as a team and mostly moved in the same direction. It was a pleasure working with him, so I wish Kevin all the best for the future.”
