Red Bull Racing has a lot of new products ready for the Hungarian Grand Prix, and although Verstappen and Perez’s cars differ in appearance due to the shape of the side pontoons, chief engineer Paul Monaghan denies that this will negatively affect Sergio’s results.
Paul Monaghan: “Will this make our work harder? No, we still work with two machines. And the fact that one of them has a slightly different shape doesn’t change anything. The approach to optimisation doesn’t change either. I hope we can get rid of this difference at Zandvoort.
Let’s see how it works out here. The current configuration is related to temperature and track conditions. If the lap times turn out to be worse than we expected, we will consider going back to the previous configuration. But we are confident that we will make a step forward.
Thanks to everyone at base who did a fantastic job in making sure we got the new items early, I hope we get the desired effect.
We wanted to bring new items as soon as possible and this was the first opportunity. All the new items, except one, were installed on both cars. And I am very grateful to those who made this possible.”
