Dan Fallows on the problems facing Aston Martin

In the second third of the season, Aston Matrin is falling back. The team earned points in only two of the last five races in Hungary on Thursday; Fernando Alonso called the car unpredictable. The team’s technical director, Dan Fallows, spoke about the reasons…

Dan Fallows: “The latest generation of ground effect machines are very sophisticated. They are sensitive to ride height, ambient temperature, tyres and other factors. All of these create a lot of problems when we want to add downforce or increase the efficiency of the car.

There is currently no way to add downforce without causing stability issues or changing performance. We see that when we update a car, to some extent everything works as we expect, but in the end it doesn’t always suit the driver or it doesn’t suit the characteristics of the car. There is a constant battle to get more out of the car.

Our goal is to solve this problem before the end of the current season. We are doing everything possible. The parts we brought to Hungary this weekend are the result of a huge effort from the people at the grassroots. The work continues around the clock, the lights on the technology campus never go out. Everyone is working to the max to find a solution. This is an ongoing process and we will continue to do this until we have solved the problem.”
