George Russell couldn’t even qualify for the second part of qualifying in Hungary, after which he blamed himself for it, but also noted that the team was not working in the best way. Lewis Hamilton, his Mercedes teammate, was fifth.
George Russell (17th): “This was influenced by two factors. Firstly, I didn’t do my job well enough. Secondly, we didn’t have enough fuel to stay on track until the end of the session.
At the beginning of the session the track was wet and when it started to dry we ran out of fuel. In both cases it is all very annoying. At the second attempt we had to continue completely calmly to the next session. But I have already told the team that I have to take my responsibility first.
Of course we underperformed. If we didn’t have enough fuel, that’s a very serious miscalculation.”
Lewis hamilton (5th): “We tried to get into the top ranks, so we can’t be happy with this result. Although I still think we acted correctly and did everything in our power.
The car works more or less well, but when the temperature rises, our speed decreases. When the session first started, it was much cooler and we were going quite fast. When it got warmer, the others accelerated, but we slowed down or at least were not able to increase our speed. With warm weather forecast for tomorrow, it doesn’t look so good for us.”
