Esteban Ocon (18th): “Bad day, and the weekend in general. Apart from the start and the first laps, where I gained four places, there is nothing more to say. We have to sit down and analyse the situation. Apparently we pitted too early in an attempt to make a cut.
“It was necessary to pit towards the end of the race, when the tyres lost grip. We have a lot to analyse and improve – operationally, in terms of performance and reliability. We need a good reset before Spa to finish this part of the season in a good mood.”
Pierre Gasly (departure): “I started from the pit lane, after getting a new battery. At the beginning of the race, the car allowed us to show a high pace, we extended the first segment to regain several positions. It seemed that our strategy would work, but in the end we missed a real opportunity when we retired the car halfway through the race due to a hydraulic leak.
Another difficult weekend for us. We need to understand our problems, understand why they happen and move on. We need to make sure we don’t repeat these mistakes and come back stronger in Belgium next weekend.”
