Horner: We discuss everything with Max behind closed doors.

Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner said he would discuss his criticism of the team and his strong language on the radio with Max Verstappen during the race in Hungary. The reigning world champion spoke rather rudely to his race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase on the radio, and continued to complain about the team in a post-race interview.

When Horner was asked by reporters if Max had overdone it, Christian replied: “Max was upset, and that’s understandable. He has quite easy communication with the engineer, but they will discuss it between themselves.

“Everyone sees that we need to get more speed out of the car and everyone in the team is working hard on this. We will discuss everything behind closed doors with Max.”

After Max Verstappen collided with Lewis Hamilton and started complaining about Lewis’ actions on the radio, Lambiase asked his driver not to be childish. Christian Horner claims that Lambiase was actually talking about Mercedes’ complaints.

“In that episode, Gianpiero didn’t mention Max. His words referred to others who complained on the radio and demanded a fine. I don’t think Gianpiero’s words were applicable to Max. The stewards also listen to the radio traffic, so it makes sense that others would ask for fines.

“Look, Max and Gianpiero have been working together for eight years. Yes, there are things we could have done better during the race, but we will talk about it as a team.”
