During the race at the Hungaroring, the drivers used all three slicks despite the hot weather…
Mario IsolaPirelli Motorsport Director: “I think the 310,000 spectators who came to the Hungaroring this weekend, and the millions who watched the race on TV and other channels, enjoyed it. The weekend started like a game of chess before culminating in a thrilling race in which the leader changed seven times.
Given the weather we experienced during FP2, the Medium setup was probably the most effective. Without the collision with Hamilton, Verstappen would almost certainly have finished third. But Hard, which was certainly the most used, also worked very well, and not only on two Mercedes, but on other cars as well.
The race showed once again how important it is for teams to carefully select tyres for their cars, and showed that the current tyre range allows for different strategy options. This is the main objective that the FIA, Formula 1 and other stakeholders set for us every year: to provide tyres that guarantee maximum safety, while allowing teams and drivers to exploit their full potential.”
