The Williams team leaves Hungary without any deserved points. Alex Albon thinks his chances of finishing in the top ten have been lost due to a poor strategy. Logan Sargent lost position at the start, which determined the further course of his race.
Alex Albon (14th): “We need to understand what happened today. I think we missed some strategy. If I hadn’t come out behind Fernando Alonso after the first pit stop, everything would have been fine, but he acted in the interest of the team and stopped me to help Lance Stroll, and that affected my race.
We were planning to do a two-stop race and then decided to do three stops, so I stopped saving the tyres and started attacking. But then we went back to the two-stop strategy and I had to extend the stint, but by then the tyres were no longer effective.
Today I had a great start and despite the disappointment the team gathered useful information about the car in high temperatures.”
Logan Sargent (17th): “Today everything was fine. I was disappointed with my start and then a difficult fight followed. Overall a good race, except the start, so I am happy with my weekend.
“On this circuit the car was better than last year and that is positive, but the race was difficult. I did everything I could. We tried to stick to an aggressive strategy, but the plan did not work and I got caught in traffic, which only increased the degradation of the tyres. But we will keep working and try to do everything right in Spa.”
