Jean Todt: Ferrari will need patience and hard work

According to Jean Todt, the arrival of Lewis Hamilton will help Ferrari, but it is not yet a fact that it will be enough to win the world championship.

In an interview with Bild, the former FIA president, who once led the Scuderia, stressed that the contract with the seven-time world champion is an important step, but must lead to other changes.

To win the title and/or the constructors’ championship, you need a strong, all-round efficient team that makes no mistakes. An example of such a team is Red Bull Racing, but the same cannot be said about Ferrari. It is precisely the creation of such a team that Frederic Vasseur must work on in the remaining time until 2025.

“Hamilton’s arrival will allow fans to rate Ferrari 9 points out of 10, although when I became team leader in 1993, this rating was no higher than 5 points,” said Todt. – Everyone is now asking the same question: will the changes the team is undergoing be enough to win the World Championship? Will they allow you to achieve your goal?

If a team wants to win the championship, everything has to be perfect. Ferrari has been a contender for the title in recent years under certain circumstances, but has not been successful.

She never managed to take the final, decisive step. At the moment, other teams, such as Red Bull, clearly have a better chance and Ferrari will have to work hard to follow their example.

Everyone dreams of driving a red car, so there will always be great drivers in the Scuderia, but even Michael Schumacher, when he joined us, took four years before he won his first title in Ferrari uniform. So everyone in Maranello will need patience and hard work.”

The last driver to become world champion with Ferrari is still Kimi Raikkonen, who won the title in 2007, the last year that Jean Todt was in charge of the Scuderia.
