We have already talked about the possibility that the Alpine team will abandon the power plants of Renault units in 2026 and switch to customer engines. Toto Wolff confirmed the possibility of such a collaboration, and now the British press writes that Mercedes power plants can be installed on Alpine cars as early as next season.
Furthermore, we are talking about a deeper technical collaboration between the two teams than just the supply of engines. In 2025, Alpine could also get a Mercedes gearbox and rear suspension.
Flavio Briatore is considered to be the initiator of the decision to abandon the use of own engines and other machine parts in favor of those of customers. In Hungary he was spotted with the Mercedes camper and according to informed sources a fundamental agreement has already been reached between Mercedes and Alpine. The parties only have to agree on the details of the cooperation and make a joint statement.
When Pierre Gasly extended his contract with Alpine, he said that he was familiar with the team’s development programme for the coming years, and that it looked promising. It is quite possible that he was already aware of the upcoming partnership with Mercedes when he signed the contract.
