Before the Spa stage, the RB press service gave Daniel Ricciardo less than two lines in the official statement, but Yuki was able to speak out…
Laurent MekiesTeam Principal: “In Hungary, the team turned the tide and became competitive again after some difficult races. It is good that we have another chance this weekend in Belgium, before the summer break, to confirm our return to the form we showed at the beginning of the season.
Last weekend wasn’t perfect, but it’s worth focusing on the positives: good pace since Friday, both cars in the last qualifying, dominance in the middle group – that was our goal for the weekend. Only riders from the top four teams finished ahead of Yuki last weekend.
In Spa, as always, a unique challenge awaits us: high speeds, long lap times and changeable weather. We have to improve and achieve good results so that we can go into the holiday with a positive attitude.”
Daniel Ricciardo: “After a tough Sunday in Budapest, I’m looking forward to Spa even more. Last week we showed good speed. I’m confident we can continue this in Belgium and fight for the points on Sunday.”
Yuki Tsunoda: “In Hungary we really turned the tide. The whole team worked hard to give us a more efficient car. We were particularly pleased with the way it worked with the tyres in the race, which meant I was the only one to complete the distance in one pit stop. Great teamwork and brilliant strategy!
The last race gave me a lot of confidence so I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can do at Spa, which is obviously a very different kind of circuit.
Driving in Spa is always interesting, I especially like the elevation changes, which are rare on other circuits. Most of the corners are fast and very difficult. This is an old school track.
The weather can be changeable, but we did a lot of wet laps at Silverstone so I’m confident in my ability.”
