Sergio Perez’s current contract with Red Bull Racing runs until the end of 2026, but it is believed that his agreement with the team contains two conditions, which if not met, would give Red Bull Racing the right to fire the driver.
According to the first condition, Sergio cannot be more than 100 points behind Max Verstappen during the summer break. One race before the break, the Mexican driver is 141 points behind his teammate, and even if he wins in Belgium, shows the best lap and Max does not score a single point, Perez is still 115 points behind Verstappen.
The second condition is that Perez may not be more than five places behind Verstappen in the individual rankings. Sergio is currently in seventh place, while Max is leading the championship.
Over the last seven rounds of the season, Perez earned 21 points, while Verstappen earned 129 points over the same period, which is five more than his teammate earned over the entire season. Of the drivers occupying the top eight places in the individual standings, Perez is the only one not to take a win this season.
Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko has already stated that a decision on Sergio Perez’s future will be made on Monday after the race at Spa.
