The day before, Audi announced the signing of a contract with former Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto, who was given the position of chief operating and technical director of Sauber Motorsport. Mattia will take up the position on August 1, but he has already started negotiations with Ferrari engineers.
As the Italian press has learned, Binotto is trying to lure his former colleagues from Maranello to Hinvil. First of all, we are talking about specialists responsible for the development of power plants.
Audi is prepared to offer them higher salaries than Ferrari, and the shared border between Switzerland and Italy makes it easier for engineers to decide to work in another country than if they were offered a move to one of the teams in Britain.
Negotiations with Ferrari’s powertrain chief Enrico Gualtieri are expected to be at a fairly advanced level, and news regarding the reinforcement of the Sauber/Audi technical staff can be expected in the coming months.
