Max Verstappen’s chances of winning the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix have been slightly reduced, as the Red Bull Racing driver faces a penalty and loss of position at the start.
The reigning world champion has already used four internal combustion engines, turbines, MGU-H and MGU-K, which is the maximum number allowed for the season, so any subsequent installation of a new one of these elements will result in a penalty.
As Racingnews365 managed to find out, Red Bull Racing decided to install a fifth combustion engine in Max’s car in Belgium. This results in a loss of ten places at the start of Sunday’s race.
Teams often swap parts of their power units at Spa to avoid a penalty and a loss of position on a circuit that offers plenty of overtaking opportunities. However, given the current form of Red Bull Racing and the championship team’s rivals, it will not be easy for Max to regain all ten lost positions.
