Toto Wolff: We can regularly fight for the podium

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff summarised the results of the race in Hungary and spoke about the team’s expectations for the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix.

Toto Wolff: “We are heading into the last race before the summer break after five podium finishes in a row. We expect to maintain this momentum and finish the first half of the season strongly. The coming battle is very tight, so you will have to give everything you can.

“We lack speed compared to some of our rivals, but the team continues to improve the car. The team is on an upward trajectory and that is encouraging. We are not yet fast enough to fight for wins every weekend, but we can regularly fight for top three positions.

Last weekend in Hungary was not easy. We qualified below our potential, so we had to work hard in the race to earn points. At the same time, Lewis was on the podium for the 200th time in Formula 1, which is an exceptional achievement. It is good to see that we have made steps forward in such warm conditions, but there is still a lot of work to be done.

“At Spa we face completely different challenges to Budapest, given the cooler weather and higher speeds. It will be interesting to see how the W15 performs compared to its rivals.”
