Kimi Antonelli, one of the candidates to replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes in 2025, will return to the wheel of Formula 1 during the Spa test.
Next week, the Italian driver will spend a day at the Belgian circuit behind the wheel of the 2022 Mercedes W13. Mercedes chief race engineer Andrew Shovlin spoke about this on Thursday.
Andrew Shovlin: “It is quite difficult for us to find opportunities to organise tests behind the wheel of cars from previous years, as the Formula 1 calendar is very busy. We do not have a dedicated test team for this and this is a consequence of the introduction of budget restrictions. In addition, Kimi also has a fairly busy calendar in Formula 2, which he is concentrating on.
“But we have a lot of tests planned with him. Kimi and I are going to work one day at Spa next week. Now his programs will shift to training: what approach to take during qualifying, how to act during a long series of laps. Kimi needs to get a clear picture of what areas he needs to work on and where he needs to improve.
But so far everything is going well. We have many more test days planned.”
