Oscar Piastri has only been racing in Formula 1 for a year and a half and has really enjoyed great success this season, winning the Hungarian Grand Prix. McLaren team boss Andrea Stella spoke about his driver’s strengths…
Andrea Stella: “I like his work ethic. Oscar believes he has to get better every day, he tries to figure everything out, he is always in a good mood.
These are Oscar’s strengths, and he is also mentally strong. I always say he is the youngest member of our team, but also the smartest.
A year ago, Piastri would not have won in Hungary. He was fast then, especially on one lap, but it took him a while to learn how to handle the tires on such a hot day as a week ago at the Hungaroring.
Furthermore, the car did not allow us to fight for victories last year and early this year. We could not offer him that opportunity.”
Last year and early this year we couldn’t fight for the wins. We didn’t have the material or the machine to do it.”
