Yuki Tsunoda: I just hope for the best

On Thursday, Yuki Tsunoda spoke in Spa about the contract for next season…

Yuki Tsunoda: “I think for the Red Bull drivers, except Max, all races can be decisive. You get used to it quite quickly and then you just don’t think about it anymore.

If you look at my last races, the progress is clear. The number of qualifying finals and the number of points scored on new circuits clearly prove this. Of course, the race in Spa is also important, but we will see how it goes.

At this point I don’t know if Red Bull is considering my candidacy. I think that goes for everyone. It’s unlikely that other riders in our program, apart from Max, will get any information about this. They may be having conversations in the background, and hopefully talking about me.

I do everything I can do in this situation, I am happy with the results. Journalists discuss rumours about me moving to Red Bull or somewhere else, but everyone sees how many points I earn compared to other drivers.

I am happy with what I have done, that is in my control, everything else is out of my control. I am focused on the results and see how everything turns out.

I haven’t talked about the contract with Red Bull boss Christian Horner and advisor Helmut Marko in the last few weeks. I don’t know about the other riders, but it seems they haven’t negotiated either.

I hope that all this will be resolved as soon as possible. Of course I would like to extend the contract, but I don’t like it when there are rumors, when everyone says, “Oh, you have to do well in this race,” when I feel extra pressure, even though I didn’t negotiate. I don’t know how everything will turn out. I just hope for the best.”
