Valtteri Bottas commented on the changes within the Sauber team, which were announced earlier this week. Finn said that the appointment of Mattia Binotto as de facto leader of the team came as a surprise to him, and that it will now take time again to set up all the working processes.
Valtteri Bottas: “The news comes quite unexpectedly. As far as I understand it, everything happened quite quickly. It is clear that the decision was taken at the highest level, and we, the drivers and regular team staff, simply did not know what was happening behind the scenes.
As I said, something like this was not expected, but of course I would like to welcome Mattia to the team. At the same time, I would like to thank Mr Seidl and Mr Hoffmann for their contribution to the development.
In a sense, we will now have to start from scratch. It is no secret that when a new leader arrives, he always needs time to get up to speed. Mattia will have to discover our weaknesses and strengths, set priorities in the short and long term – all this will take time.
“This is the third time the team manager has changed in the last three years, so the situation is not new and should not affect the team. Changes are more likely to happen in the future, but I don’t think anything will change now.”
