At a press conference in Spa, Bruno Famen confirmed the early completion of the Renault engine project for the Alpine team in Viry.
Bruno Famen: “We want to create a new sports brand in Viry, so that it can be known outside France and all over the world. The project, which was presented to staff in Viry earlier this week, involves reallocating resources from the development of the Formula 1 powertrain to the development of new technologies for the brand.
One of the consequences of this project, if accepted, will be that the Alpine F1 team will buy a power unit from another manufacturer, and we will have more resources to develop the brand.
The project, which was presented in Viri, is designed for the period from 2026. We are negotiating with several manufacturers, but nothing has been decided yet.
We have to meet the demands of the French unions. There are social processes that must be strictly followed, and we cannot make decisions until we have completed this process.
Over the past year I have doubled my activities as Vice President of Motorsport, involved in the Viry base and other projects, in particular the Dakar. In addition, I have been acting as head of Alpine F1, and I believe it will be more beneficial for the company if I devote my time to Viry and the new project, if it is approved.
I have had absolutely no problems with Flavio Briatore in the short time we spent together. Everyone knows that he has his own path, his own goals, but I think it is logical that I step down as team leader.
“I will resign at the end of August in order to devote myself fully to work in Viri from September 1.”
