Max Verstappen set the third fastest time in the second practice session of the Belgian Grand Prix, with teammate Sergio Perez finishing ninth. The Red Bull Racing drivers said on Friday that they had been experimenting with the settings in search of the optimal option.
Max Verstappen (3rd): “Today we experimented with different settings. A typical story for Spa, as the first and third sectors are fast on this circuit, and in the second sector the car has to be efficient in the corners. Finding the optimal balance of settings for the whole circle is not so easy.
We tried several solutions to see which one was best suited for this route. Now we need to analyze the telemetry data.
The day started quite positively, although the second practice was not so good, so we need to understand what needs to change. I hope we can find the optimal settings, especially for the race, because I will lose positions due to the penalty for changing the engine. We will try to optimize everything. It is important to qualify well, but our focus will be mainly on the race.”
Sergio Perez (9th): “Today we experimented with the settings. We haven’t managed to get the maximum out of them yet, but today our cars were in different configurations, so we need to analyse the data collected.
There is still a lot to do before qualifying and the race. So far everything indicates that the rubber degradation will be very high. I think we have an interesting race ahead of us, and tomorrow’s qualifying could be rainy. There are still a lot of uncertainties ahead.”
