Valtteri Bottas: We kept testing new products

On Friday, Sauber drivers worked on cars with different configurations at Spa. Valtteri Bottas tested the new products that were presented during the last stage in Hungary, and Guanyu Zhou drove the previous version of the C44.

Valtteri Bottas (13th): “Today is a day of productive learning – this track never disappoints. We continued to test the new products presented in Budapest, although the Spa circuit has completely different characteristics. We tried different configurations to have a clear idea of which one to choose for Sunday’s race.

Today both sessions were held on a dry track, but the weather on Saturday remains questionable – rain is expected, but this is not unusual for Spa. In any case, we were able to do enough laps today and gather a lot of information for analysis.

The result in the race remains our main priority. Sunday has to be sunny, so the car has to be set up well.”

Guanyu Zhou (19th): “It was a difficult day, but we managed to complete the planned programme and collect valuable information. Now we can make comparisons between my car and the updated car driven by Valtteri.

It is clear that major steps need to be taken to make progress. Otherwise it is difficult to count on not only getting into the top ten, but even into the top fifteen.

At the moment we are behind. It is time to regroup, analyze the collected data and gain a few tenths to close the gap with your rivals.

“Let’s see what the weather will be like tomorrow and how it will affect the speed of the car. Spa always brings surprises, which can help me gain some positions.”
