F3: Voisin takes first career win

Callum Voisin took the first victory of his Formula 3 career by finishing first in the race at Spa on Sunday, with Sebastian Montoya and Leonardo Fornaroli joining him on the podium.

Sunday morning the sun was shining in Spa. In some parts of the track the asphalt remained wet, but the riders were on slicks. At the start Callum Voisin kept the lead into the first corner, while Alex Dunne dropped from second to fourth place and passed Montoya and Fornaroli. The leader of the individual competition, Gabriele Mini, spun in the first corner after contact with Oliver Goethe.

On the second lap of fifteen, on the exit of the first corner, Voisin made a mistake under braking, which Montoya took advantage of and tried to attack the race leader. However, Callum managed to fend off the attack on the descent to Eau Rouge.

At the start of the third lap, the safety car came onto the track. The cause was a collision between Martinius Stenshorn and Tuuka Taponen. Stenshorn spun at the exit of turn 14, Taponen, who was driving behind, tried to avoid it, put his car in a U-turn and collided with the car of the Hitech driver who was on the other side of the track.

The race resumed on lap seven. The restart went smoothly in the top three and in the battle for fourth place Sami Megetunif overtook Alex Dunne. Behind them Sophia Flörsch and Joseph Loach collided – both cars got stuck in the gravel of turn 8 and the safety car came out for the second time.

The restart took place on lap ten. There was no exchange of positions between the top four, and Alex Dunne slowed on the exit of the first corner, dropping from fifth to tenth.

At turn eight Christian Mansell sent Arvid Lindblad into a spin, who was stuck in the gravel and could not continue the race. At turn nine Mari Boya crashed his car and the safety car came out for the third time.

The race resumed on lap fourteen. In the top three everyone kept their positions and in the battle for fourth place Noel Leon overtook Sami Megetunifa.

Callum Voisin confidently took the race to victory. He also got an extra point for the best lap of the race. Sebastian Montoya finished second and reached the podium for the first time this season. Thanks to the third place Leonardo Fornaroli moved up to first place in the individual competition.

Nikita Bedrin finished twenty-third. The race results allowed Prema to secure victory in the team classification ahead of schedule.

The final stage of the Formula 3 season will be held in Monza, Italy from August 30 to September 1.
